For the Love of Dogs- Rescue
Fostering and transporting for various rescues has been one of the most rewarding experiences I've been privileged to have. For the most part, I've stepped away from volunteering in rescue currently to focus on myself and my own dogs, but I encourage others to remember that rescues and shelters have hundreds of dogs waiting to be adopted and they have so much potential to be your perfect companion. Consider giving a dog in need a home please. Check out Petfinder.com or Petharbor.com to see what dogs are available to adopt in your area.
My previous foster dog- Gemma- adopted!
I fostered Gemma through the Heart of Jackson Humane Society in Holton, KS.

Past foster dog- Colton- adopted!
Colton is a Small Munsterlander. He is about a year old. I spotted Colton at the local humane society and knew there was something special about him right away. Although I wasn't certain he was in fact a rare Munsterlander, I suspected this was so. After sending some emails to see if anyone would let me foster this energetic, sweet dog, Jan Price, founder of Saving Death Row Dogs, stepped up to the plate and in less than 24 hours after receiving my email, she'd picked Colton up and handed him over to me to foster. I gave him a bath, let him have a good run in the yard, and set to work getting pictures of him to see just what breed this boy might be. Sure enough, after emailing some Munsterlander breeders, club members, and owners in the midwest, all of them confirmed what I believed; Colton was a purebred Small Munsterlander. How a dog like him turned up as a stray on a dirt road near Auburn, KS, we'll never know. But I'm very grateful Jan agreed that this boy needed to get out of a kennel at the shelter and belonged on my couch as a foster instead.
Update! Good news! Colton has found himself a home! The Lemons family of Oregon City, OR traveled all the way to Kansas to pick up their new family member on December 1! Congratulations Colton (now named Gunner) and to the Lemons family! I enjoyed meeting his new family members and look forward to hearing updates on Gunner! |
Foster dogs now in their Forever Homes
Below are some pictures of just a few of the dogs I helped rescue from 2008-2011.
Each dog had a story to tell, each dog had plenty of love to give. I am eternally grateful for the lessons I learned in helping each make their way to the perfect home for them.
